platformer-feel

A free Claude skill for 2D platformers. It tells Claude how three small jump helpers should work, and makes it prove each one with scripted key presses before it says it's done.

What it covers

Each helper has its own post with a playable before and after, the real Claude Code session, and what we measured.

  1. Tutorial Coyote time: the jump fix players never notice To show the difference, we started from our double-jump game with coyote time switched off. Claude Code turned it on and tested it. Play both versions and see what we measured.
  2. Tutorial Jump buffering: when an early jump should still count In our Phaser platformer, pressing jump just before landing spent the double jump. Claude Code made the press wait for the ground. Play both versions and see what we measured.
  3. Tutorial Variable jump height in a Phaser platformer: tap to hop, hold to jump high Tap for a small hop, hold for a full jump. Claude Code checked the variable jump height in our Phaser platformer against a skill, measured it in the browser and left it as it was.

Does it help?

We gave Claude Code the same platformer request with and without the skill. Both games ended up with all three helpers. The difference was testing: with the skill, Claude played its own game with scripted presses and fixed two bugs it found. Without it, Claude didn't test the jump at all. That was one run each, so treat it as a first look.

  1. Tool review Does a skill make Claude Code's platformers feel better? We tested it Same prompt, same model, one run with our platformer-feel skill and one without. We measured both jumps. The jump helpers came out the same; the skill made Claude test its game.

Install it

Claude Code: unzip it so the folder sits at .claude/skills/platformer-feel inside your game's folder. Claude picks it up the next time you start it there and uses it when you work on jumping or movement.

Claude app: upload the zip under Settings, in the Skills section of Capabilities.

Then ask the way you normally would, for example "the jump feels stiff, fix it and test it".

Not in this version

Wall jumps, dashes, moving and one-way platforms, ledge grabs, camera smoothing and slopes. The skill tells Claude to leave these alone unless you ask.
