What we asked“Make a sound effect pack for a steampunk adventure full of brass machines: hissing steam, ticking gears and clanking metal. Save each sound as a WAV file in a sounds folder, named like this: - steam-hiss: A burst of steam venting from a pipe, a loud bright hiss that tapers off, about one second. - gear-tick: Small brass gears turning, a steady clockwork ticking, seamless loop of about two seconds. - lever-pull: Pulling a heavy brass lever, a grinding metallic ratchet ending in a solid clunk, about one second. - valve-turn: Turning a squeaky steam valve, a short metal creak with a rising hiss. - machine-whir: A big steam engine running, a rhythmic chugging pump with low mechanical hum, seamless loop of about six seconds. - airship-hum: An airship engine droning overhead, a low steady propeller thrum, seamless loop of about six seconds. - steam-whistle: A steam whistle blowing, a breathy loud tone held for about one and a half seconds. - piston-punch: A steam-powered piston punch, a heavy metallic thump with a sharp blast of steam. - clockwork-pistol: A clockwork gun firing, a winding click followed by a hollow metallic pop and puff of steam. - boiler-burst: A boiler bursting, a deep boom with a roaring hiss of steam and rattling metal, about two seconds. - cog-pickup: Picking up a brass cog, a bright little metal clink with a tiny ring, under half a second. - invention-done: An invention completed, a cheerful music-box style rising melody ending with a little steam puff, about two seconds. Make them sound like they belong to the same game.”

What happened

Claude
I made all 12 sound effects and saved them in sounds/ as WAV files (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, mono). I checked them by measurement only (length, peak level, loudness, frequency balance and the loop joins). I can't hear audio, so none of them has been listened to. Have a listen before relying on them; the ones I'm least sure of are listed below.

We gave the prompt above to a fresh Claude Code session in an empty folder, with no skills and no extra tools. It wrote a small program that makes every sound from scratch, and it took about 2 minutes. Claude can’t hear, so it checked the sounds by measuring them. Press play and judge them yourself.

Every sound is also in the sound effects library, where you can search all packs at once. They are free to use in your games, commercial or not.
